Marimo nanocarbons composed of a cup-stacked carbon nanofilaments as anode catalyst support for enhanced power performance of direct methanol fuel cells

Kosuke Saito et al.

Summary: Mesoporous carbon nanomaterials with small pore sizes can be synthesized using highly reactive alkanes as raw materials. The carbon number of the raw material influences the amount of functional groups and amorphous components in the synthesized carbon nanomaterials. Low reactivity alkanes can be used to synthesize high crystallinity mesoporous carbon nanomaterials. Carbon nanomaterials with more functional groups can improve power generation performance when used as catalyst support for direct methanol fuel cells.

A spin-coated TiOx-modified Pt anodic catalyst for the direct methanol fuel cells

Islam M. Al-Akraa et al.

Summary: In this study, a spin-coated titanium oxide modified platinum catalyst was fabricated and optimized for methanol electro-oxidation. The annealing temperature was adjusted to achieve the highest catalytic activity and stability. The PtTi-700 catalyst annealed at 700 degrees C showed the highest activity and stability, with approximately an 11-fold increase in oxidation current density and a 19-fold increase in stability after 50 potential scanning cycles. The enhancement of charge transfer kinetics and reduction of catalyst poisoning explained the origin of catalysis.

Experimental investigations on the effect of current collector open ratio on the performance of a passive direct methanol fuel cell with liquid electrolyte layer

Muralikrishna Boni et al.

Summary: The study found that the current collector with a 55.40% open ratio performed the best at 3M methanol concentration, and the performance was improved by using a liquid electrolyte layer with all three current collectors. Furthermore, utilizing two layers of anode catalyst can enhance the fuel cell performance.
