Controlling the oxide film destruction, metal dissolution, and H2 generation on Al in acid solutions

M. Alfakeer et al.

Summary: Two types of dihydropyridine derivatives, ODCA and OPDCA, were used as inhibitors to investigate their effects on the destruction of Al2O3 film, corrosion of Al, and H2 production on Al surface in 2.0 M HCl solutions. Chemical and electrochemical techniques were employed, along with surface investigation using scanning electron microscopy. The rate of H2 production increased with immersion time and temperature, but was mitigated in the presence of ODCA and OPDCA inhibitors. Galvanostatic polarization data indicated that the inhibitors behaved as mixed-type inhibitors by forming an adsorbed film on the Al surface. Thermodynamic parameters, Delta G degrees ads, and Kads confirmed spontaneous mixed physical and chemisorption mechanisms.

Corrosion inhibition of aluminum in sodium hydroxide solutions using some inorganic anions

S. Abd El Wanees et al.

Summary: The study examined the rates of corrosion of aluminum and hydrogen gas production in sodium hydroxide solutions with the additions of chromate, phosphate, and tungstate anions. The data showed that these anions promoted oxide film formation and mitigated hydrogen production. The inhibition efficiency, eta, was found to depend on the type and concentration of the anion, as well as temperature. The inhibition mechanism was assumed to occur through an adsorption process following Temkin's isotherm, with thermodynamic parameters such as K-ads and Delta G degrees(ads) calculated and discussed. Surface examination was conducted using SEM and EDX spectroscopy.

Investigation of Effect of ClO4- Ions on the Growth of Indium Oxide Films on In Electrode in Dilute Na2B4O7 Solution by Potentiometric Technique

Arej S. Al-Gorair et al.

Summary: The growth and formation of oxide film on indium in a 0.01 M Na2B4O7 solution under natural corrosion conditions were investigated. The addition of NaClO4 reduces the rate of oxide film growth, while an increase in solution temperature and the added amount of NaClO4 lowers the rate of oxide film repair.

Inhibition of pitting corrosion of C-steel in oilfield-produced water using some purine derivatives

S. Abd El Wanees et al.

Summary: The study found that in oilfield-produced water, adding various concentrations of purine inhibitors can prolong the induction period of pitting corrosion and reduce the steady-state current value. The type, concentration, and temperature of the inhibitors have an impact on the induction period and inhibition efficiency, and the inhibition mechanism may be achieved through an adsorption process.

Initiation and inhibition of pitting corrosion on C-steel in oilfield-produced water under natural corrosion conditions

S. Abd El Wanees et al.

Summary: The initiation and inhibition of localized pitting corrosion on C-steel surface in oilfield produced water were investigated. The results showed that the presence of HPO4-2, WO4-2, and MoO4-2 anions can suppress the initiation current, and their inhibition efficiency increases in the order of Na2WO4 < Na2MoO4 < Na2HPO4. The thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption process were also calculated and discussed.

Evaluation of the Anticorrosion and Adsorption Properties of Polyethylene Glycol and Polyvinyl Alcohol for Corrosion of Iron in 1.0 M NaCl Solution

Arej S. Al-Gorair et al.

Summary: The inhibitory effectiveness of PEG and PVA on the corrosion of iron in 1.0 M NaCl solution was confirmed by various chemical and electrochemical technologies. The anticorrosion efficiency increased with the concentration of the polymer molecules, reaching up to 93% and 86% at 500 ppm for PEG and PVA, respectively. Potentiodynamic polarization studies showed that the two polymers act as mixed inhibitors, with the mechanism of anticorrosion being explained by the spontaneous adsorption of these molecules on the iron interface.

Hydrogen Production on Aluminum in Alkaline Media

S. M. Abd El Haleem et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior and hydrogen generation on aluminum in NaOH solutions are dependent on the alkali amount and the solution temperature, with rates of Al2O3 film destruction, metal dissolution, and hydrogen gas production being key factors. Electrochemical tests confirm the charge transfer process on the metal surface and the accumulation of oxide film at the Al/Al2O3 interface.
