Explainable Artificial Intelligence and Wearable Sensor-Based Gait Analysis to Identify Patients with Osteopenia and Sarcopenia in Daily Life

Jeong-Kyun Kim et al.

Summary: Osteopenia and sarcopenia are key factors in various senile diseases and can greatly impact the quality of life in old age. This study proposes a method using an inertial-sensor-based wearable gait device to analyze gait signals and utilizes explainable artificial intelligence to assess the contribution and importance of different gait factors in osteopenia and sarcopenia. The results show high accuracy and statistical significance, indicating the potential of this method for disease management.

PokeBNN: A Binary Pursuit of Lightweight Accuracy

Yichi Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a binary convolution block called PokeConv to improve the quality of BNNs by adding multiple residual paths and tuning the activation function. It is applied to ResNet-50 and optimizes the initial convolutional layer of ResNet, resulting in PokeBNN1. By defining arithmetic computation effort (ACE) and optimizing the binarization gradient approximation, favorable improvements are achieved in both accuracy and network cost.

Ensemble-Based Out-of-Distribution Detection

Donghun Yang et al.

Summary: The newly proposed OOD detection method uses an ensemble of features trained by a softmax-based classifier and a network based on distance metric learning (DML). Through complementary interaction, the trained feature space fits well on the Gaussian distribution by class, allowing for efficient detection of OOD data by setting a threshold in the trained feature space. The overall performance of the proposed approach is shown to be superior to other methods, including the state-of-the-art approach, on various combinations of datasets.
