Surface coating of silica with amine functionalized calix[4]arene and its application in metal ion extraction

Nida Shams Jalbani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the metal ion removal efficiency of a new calixarene-coated silica resin in aqueous solution through solid phase extraction. The resin showed strong potential for removing divalent and trivalent metal ions, with good agreement to the Langmuir adsorption model. Various models were used to evaluate the adsorption data, and thermodynamic and kinetic studies were also performed.

Fe-N-C-based cathode catalyst enhances redox reaction performance of microbial fuel cells: Azo dyes degradation accompanied by electricity generation

Sai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes an environmentally friendly and convenient method for synthesizing Fe-N-C-based catalysts and confirms their satisfactory effects. The results show that graphitized structures, pyridine-N, and graphitic-N enhance the conductivity of pomelo peel-derived carbon (PPC). The synthesized catalyst, with the existence of Fe3C nanocrystals, Fe-N-x active sites, and rod-like carbon nanotubes (CNTs), exhibits effective removal of Congo Red (CR) and COD, as well as a maximum power output of 184 mW center dot m(-2). The microbial community analysis reveals the dominant presence of Proteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, and Acinetobacter in the anodic biofilm. Overall, this innovative substitute for cathode catalyst in MFCs has broad engineering applications due to its admirable intrinsic activity.

A critical review on the treatment of dye-containing wastewater: Ecotoxicological and health concerns of textile dyes and possible remediation approaches for environmental safety

Rania Al-Tohamy et al.

Summary: The synthetic dyes used in the textile industry cause pollution in water bodies, which has negative consequences on the environment and human health. It is important to effectively treat dye-containing wastewater using eco-friendly technologies to reduce contamination of aquatic habitats and natural water resources. This review discusses the effects of textile dyes on water bodies, aquatic flora, and human health, and compares various technologies for removing dyes from textile wastewater.

Experimental and DFT Modeling Studies for the Adsorptive Removal of Reactive Dyes from Wastewater

Ranjhan Junejo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that DSA resin has high adsorption capacity for dyes in wastewater, effectively removing reactive dyes in industrial wastewater treatment. The Freundlich and D-R models were used to explain the adsorption mechanism, indicating a multi-layer physical adsorption process, which is endothermic and spontaneous. The DSA resin maintains high adsorption capacity after regeneration washing.
