Systematic review with meta-analysis: environmental and dietary differences of inflammatory bowel disease in Eastern and Western populations

Min Zhao et al.

Summary: This study found that numerous environmental and dietary factors influence the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in both Western and Eastern populations. Some factors, like family history, smoking, and vitamin D deficiency, increase the risk of IBD, while others, such as farm animals, physical activity, and Helicobacter pylori infection, provide protection against IBD.

Incidence trends and long-term outcomes of myocardial infarction in young adults: Does gender matter?

Francesco Bruno et al.

Summary: There is limited data on the long-term clinical outcomes of young patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), as well as the impact of gender on the incidence and prognosis of juvenile MI. This study found that among young patients with MI, women had a higher in-hospital mortality compared to men, but the long-term prognosis after hospital discharge did not differ. MI recurrences were associated with increased mortality at follow up.

Inflammation and atherosclerosis: signaling pathways and therapeutic intervention

Peng Kong et al.

Summary: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory vascular disease that can be promoted or inhibited by innate and adaptive immune responses. Several signaling pathways associated with the inflammatory response have been found to play important roles in the development and regression of atherosclerosis. Targeting inflammatory pathways may represent a new approach for the treatment of atherosclerotic diseases.

Summary: A study investigating the association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and acute cardiovascular events found that there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of acute coronary events between patients with IBD and matched non-IBD cohort.

Summary: This study investigated the safety and efficacy of IL-6 inhibition treatment in high cardiovascular risk individuals. Results showed that ziltivekimab effectively reduced biomarkers of inflammation and thrombosis, with promising effects observed in patients with chronic kidney disease.

What Links an Increased Cardiovascular Risk and Inflammatory Bowel Disease? A Narrative Review

Liliana Lykowska-Szuber et al.

Summary: Studies have shown an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with IBD, potentially due to inflammation-induced endothelial dysfunction and development of CVD, as well as gut microbiota dysbiosis. Dietary patterns have also been identified to influence the relationship between IBD and CVD.
