Prospective validation of a new imaging scorecard to assess leptomeningeal metastasis: A joint EORTC BTG and RANO effort

Emilie Le Rhun et al.

Summary: The validation of the 2016 RANO MRI scorecard for leptomeningeal metastasis failed due to various reasons. A revised MRI scorecard for response assessment in leptomeningeal metastasis was prospectively validated through a joint effort of the EORTC Brain Tumor Group and RANO. The study confirmed the utility of the new scorecard, while also highlighting the importance of MRI assessment training and the use of electronic case report forms with blocking options to ensure completeness and quality of scoring in clinical trials.

Leptomeningeal metastases in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 positive breast cancer: Real-world data from a multicentric European cohort

Ivica Ratosa et al.

Summary: Leptomeningeal metastases (LM) in patients with HER2+ breast cancer are rare but often fatal. This multicentric study retrospectively gathered data from 82 patients with advanced HER2+ breast cancer and LM. The study found that absence of neurological symptoms and receiving radiotherapy were associated with prolonged overall survival.

Prognostic validation and clinical implications of the EANO ESMO classification of leptomeningeal metastasis from solid tumors

Emilie Le Rhun et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed data from 254 patients with leptomeningeal metastases from solid tumors and found that patients with confirmed LM had worse outcomes compared to those with probable or possible LM. Different subtypes of LM had varying prognoses, with nodular disease on MRI negatively impacting outcomes for type II LM patients.

Breast cancer patients treated with intrathecal therapy for leptomeningeal metastases in a large real-life database

M. Carausu et al.

Summary: Leptomeningeal metastasis is a rare and dangerous complication of metastatic breast cancer. Patients treated with intrathecal therapy usually have poor prognosis, but a subgroup of patients may have better outcomes when concomitant systemic therapy and methotrexate are used.
