The Role of IL-22 in Wound Healing. Potential Implications in Clinical Practice

Roxana Delia Zaharie et al.

Summary: Wound healing process is influenced by various cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors, and interleukin-22 (IL-22) is a crucial cytokine for tissue regeneration. This systematic review examined the implications of IL-22 in wound healing caused by external factors. The findings suggest that IL-22 plays a central role in stimulating cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation during tissue repair. However, excessive IL-22 expression can have negative effects. Further research is needed to validate the roles of IL-22 in clinical practice and its potential implications in surgical healing.
