A novel modified chitosan/collagen coated-gold nanoparticles for 5-fluo-rouracil delivery: Synthesis, characterization, in vitro drug release studies, anti-inflammatory activity and in vitro cytotoxicity assay

Naruthai Hongsa et al.

Summary: In this study, novel nanohybrids of gold nanoparticles coated with collagen and modified with BiQCS were developed for improved drug delivery. The layer-by-layer technique increased the drug loading capacity of the nanoparticles and enhanced their cellular uptake and specific targeting. The nanohybrids also exhibited strong anti-inflammatory activity and greatly improved the activity of the drug. These findings suggest that the Bi-QCSAuNPs@collagen could be a promising drug delivery carrier in the future.

Formation of Aggregate-Free Gold Nanoparticles in the Cyclodextrin-Tetrachloroaurate System Follows Finke-Watzky Kinetics

Yuri Sergeyevich Pestovsky et al.

Summary: In this study, gold nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using cyclodextrins as reducing agents at room temperature. The synthesis kinetics and particle size distribution were found to be pH-dependent, and the resulting nanoparticles were free of aggregates. The best preparations exhibited high absorbance and were ready to use without further processing. This method meets the requirements of green chemistry.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of biocompatible silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for colorimetric detection of toxic mercury (II) ion (Hg2+). The AgNPs were synthesized using a phenolic-rich extract from Asystasia gangetica leaf as a reductant of silver salt within a hydrophilic konjac glucomannan (KgM) solution as a stabilizer. The synthesized KgM-AgNPs showed good biocompatibility and demonstrated effective detection of Hg2+ in aqueous environments.

Oxidative Stress and Beta Amyloid in Alzheimer's Disease. Which Comes First: The Chicken or the Egg?

Elena Tamagno et al.

Summary: The pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease involves the accumulation of beta amyloid and vulnerability of the brain to oxidative stress, which are linked to each other. It is difficult to determine which comes first, Aβ or oxidative stress. Evidence suggests that oxidative stress occurs early in the development of Alzheimer's disease and plays a crucial role in the manifestation of clinical and pathological symptoms.
