A polysaccharide from Inonotus obliquus ameliorates intestinal barrier dysfunction in mice with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Ling Su et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effect and mechanism of a polysaccharide from Inonotus obliquus (IN) on type 2 diabetes mellitus. IN repaired the intestinal barrier, alleviated pathological damage, and suppressed the production of proinflammatory cytokines, making it a potential novel drug candidate for type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Impaired intestinal barrier function in type 2 diabetic patients measured by serum LPS, Zonulin, and IFABP

Jie-Hao Yuan et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the intestinal barrier function is impaired in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Poor glycemic control and more chronic complications of diabetes are associated with worse intestinal barrier function. Treatment with aspirin does not worsen the impairment of intestinal barrier in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is the fastest-growing metabolic disease in the world, with patients often experiencing disturbances in the gut microbiota and increased intestinal permeability. The gut microbiota, which plays a crucial role in metabolism and immune regulation, may serve as a potential therapeutic target for improving the outcomes of type 2 diabetes and related diseases.

Metformin regulates inflammation and fibrosis in diabetic kidney disease through TNC/TLR4/NF-κB/miR-155-5p inflammatory loop

Yang Zhou et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing globally, with its complications, particularly diabetic kidney disease (DKD), also on the rise. Increased levels of tenascin-C (TNC) are associated with UACR and hypertension in T2DM patients. In both a rat model of DKD and rat mesangial cells cultured under high glucose conditions, TNC expression levels were elevated. TNC was found to regulate miR-155-5p expression through the TLR4/NF-kappa B p65 pathway, affecting inflammation and fibrosis processes in DKD.

Effect of gut microbiota on LPS-induced acute lung injury by regulating the TLR4/NF-kB signaling pathway

Jia Tang et al.

Summary: The study explores the regulatory mechanism of gut flora in the host defense against LPS-induced ALI through the TLR4/NF-kB pathway. It is found that gut microbiota imbalance may regulate the TLR4/NF-kB signaling pathway in the lung immune system, activating oxidative stress in the lung and mediating lung injury through the regulation of the gut barrier. Additionally, fecal microbiota transplantation impairs the activity of the TLR4/NF-kB signaling pathway in the lung and decreases oxidative stress in animals with ALI by restoring the gut microecology.

Probiotic Interventions Alleviate Food Allergy Symptoms Correlated With Cesarean Section: A Murine Model

Bi-Ying Jin et al.

Summary: Delivery by cesarean section is associated with increased food allergies in a rat model, with higher responsiveness to allergens observed in CS-born rats. However, supplementation with probiotics containing Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium can protect against allergic responses and indicate a dysbiosis of microbiota in CS-related allergies. This study suggests that interventions targeting microbiota composition in early life may be therapeutically relevant for CS-related food allergies.
