Electrochemical multi-sensors obtained by applying an electric discharge treatment to 3D-printed poly(lactic acid)

Adrian Fontana-Escartin et al.

Summary: Electrochemical sensors for real-time detection of bioanalytes were prepared using additive manufacturing and non-conductive PLA filaments. By applying electrical discharge, the inert PLA was transformed into an electrochemically responsive material. The sensors achieved multiplexed detection by measuring signals in different regions.

Electrochemical activation for sensing of three-dimensional-printed poly(lactic acid) using low-pressure plasma

Adrian Fontana-Escartin et al.

Summary: Integrated electrochemical sensors with plasma-treated PLA as a selective coating layer and electrochemical transductor have been prepared. By applying low-pressure gas plasma treatment, 3D-printed PLA specimens are transformed into electroresponsive material. The one derived from low-pressure O-2 plasma treatment shows the best sensor performance. Cell adhesion assays demonstrate higher cell viability for plasma-treated PLA modified samples.

Tuning multilayered polymeric self-standing films for controlled release of L-lactate by electrical stimulation

Anna Puiggali-Jou et al.

Summary: Different approaches were examined for controlled release of L-lactate, with the method of loading L-lactate at the outer PLA layers showing significant influence on the release regulation process. This method can achieve prolonged and sustained release of L-lactate. The biocompatibility and suitability of the engineered films for cardiac tissue engineering has been confirmed.

Potential of Raman spectroscopic techniques to study proteins

Nikki Kuhar et al.

Summary: Proteins, responsible for various biological processes, must maintain correct folding to avoid diseases. Raman spectroscopy techniques, including ROA, provide insights into protein structure and conformational changes, helping differentiate between proteins and understand subtle changes in their conformation. Techniques and data analyses advancements in Raman spectroscopic studies of proteins continue to be explored for a deeper understanding of protein structures.
