Pore structure, thermal insulation and compressive property of ZrO2 nanofiber aerogels with carbon junction fabricated by freeze drying

Wei Dang et al.

Summary: In this study, ZrO2 nanofiber aerogels with carbon as fiber junction were prepared by freeze drying. The effects of resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) content and fiber content on the pore structure, thermal property, and compressive property of ZrO2/C nanofiber aerogels were investigated. The ZrO2/C nanofiber aerogels exhibited ultra-high porosity, hierarchical pore structure, and their thermal conductivity and plateau stress were influenced by both RF content and fiber content.

Preparation of γ-Al2O3/α-Al2O3 ceramic foams as catalyst carriers via the replica technique

Vladimir Shumilov et al.

Summary: This work presents an effective method for preparing open-cell ceramic foams using a polyurethane sponge replica technique, ceramic suspension, and polyvinyl alcohol solution. The ceramic carriers were modified with NaOH etching, colloidal silica coating, and gamma-alumina layer, followed by impregnation of an active catalytic phase (Pt). The catalytic properties and applicability of the foam catalysts were demonstrated through hydrogenation experiments.

Preparation and microstructure evolution of novel ultra-low thermal conductivity calcium silicate-based ceramic foams

Yibo Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, municipal solid waste incineration fly ash was used to prepare a novel calcium silicate-based foam material with ultra-low thermal conductivity. The addition of foam and borax was found to affect the sintering behavior and microstructural evolution of the foams. The resulting ceramic foams show potential applications in thermal insulation, filtration, and catalyst carriers.

Two-Step Fabrication of BPO4 Ceramics with Acid Corrosion Resistance and Neutron Shielding Performance

Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, BPO4 ceramics (BPCs) were successfully fabricated using a two-step method and tested for their mechanical properties, thermal properties, acid corrosion resistance, and neutron shielding performance. The experimental results showed that the prepared BPCs exhibited reliable mechanical properties and a high neutron shielding rate, making them a promising choice for compact shielding design.

Novel noble-metal-free ceramic filter with controlled pore structure for environmental cleaning

Yunzi Xin et al.

Summary: The study achieved complete decomposition of volatile organic compounds on HAp powder, and developed a new type of porous HAp ceramic filter with comparable catalytic performance to HAp powder. By controlling the structural features of the pores such as pore size and porosity, the catalytic performance and gas permeability of porous HAp can be adjusted. The superior catalytic activity of HAp filters without the need for noble-metal nanoparticle catalysts presents a novel strategy for future VOC decomposition techniques.
