The antifungal activity of caspofungin in combination with antifungals or non-antifungals against Candida species in vitro and in clinical therapy

Shan Su et al.

Summary: The review highlights the importance of combination therapy with caspofungin in treating refractory Candida infections and the need for further research on its efficacy. Additionally, novel compounds with potential antifungal activities show synergistic interactions with caspofungin, indicating promising directions for future studies on combating Candida species.

Antifungal effects and potential mechanisms of lonidamine in combination with fluconazole against Candida albicans

Xueqi Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the combination of lonidamine and fluconazole exerts synergistic antifungal effects against resistant Candida albicans by inhibiting hyphal growth and activating metacaspase, but not by affecting cellular ROS levels or drug transporters.

Aspirin and verapamil increase the sensitivity of Candida albicans to caspofungin under planktonic and biofilm conditions

Wenli Feng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of CAS combined with ASP or VPL on the sensitivity of Candida albicans under planktonic and biofilm conditions. The results showed that ASP and VPL may be sensitizers for CAS, and the combination had better inhibitory effects on C. albicans under both planktonic and biofilm conditions.

Antifungal Effects and Potential Mechanisms of Benserazide Hydrochloride Alone and in Combination with Fluconazole Against Candida albicans

Xueqi Chen et al.

Summary: The study revealed that BEH alone or in combination with FLC exhibited potent antifungal activity against C. albicans, possibly through increasing intracellular calcium concentration, activating metacaspase activity to reduce virulence, and anti-biofilms, but not related to drug efflux.

Antifungal activity and potential mechanism of Asiatic acid alone and in combination with fluconazole against Candida albicans

Yuting Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that Asiatic acid in combination with fluconazole had a synergistic effect on fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans both in vitro and in vivo. The combination reduced the minimum inhibitory concentration of fluconazole and inhibited hyphal growth, possibly through mechanisms such as inhibition of drug efflux pump and accumulation of reactive oxygen species. These findings provide new insights for overcoming drug resistance and offer potential for future development and application of Asiatic acid.
