Dioscin relieves diabetic nephropathy via suppressing oxidative stress and apoptosis, and improving mitochondrial quality and quantity control

Yujie Zhong et al.

Summary: The protective effect of dioscin on diabetic nephropathy was explored in this study. Dioscin reduced blood glucose, pancreatic injury, renal function markers and renal pathological changes. It also inhibited oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis mediated by the mitochondria and ER stress, while enhancing autophagy and improving mitochondrial quality and quantity control.

Pathological mechanisms and crosstalk among different forms of cell death in systemic lupus erythematosus

Yue Xu et al.

Summary: SLE is a systemic autoimmune disorder characterized by immune dysregulation and presence of autoantibodies. Aberrant activation of programmed cell death signaling and accelerated cell death is critical in the immunopathogenesis of SLE, providing stable source of self-antigens. Different cell types display distinct susceptibility and characteristics to cell death, while different cell death forms in various cells have intricate connections promoting immune dysregulation and contributing to the development of SLE.

Calcineurin and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: The Rationale for Using Calcineurin Inhibitors in the Treatment of Lupus Nephritis

Carlos Rafael-Vidal et al.

Summary: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect almost all organ systems, with lupus nephritis (LN) being a severe complication affecting approximately half of SLE patients. LN is characterized by the accumulation of immune complexes leading to renal failure. Aberrant T cell activation plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of both SLE and LN.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of epidemiological studies on the association of occupational exposure to free crystalline silica and systemic lupus erythematosus

Alberto Morotti et al.

Summary: The meta-analysis of relevant studies suggests a possible association between occupational exposure to free crystalline silica and the risk of developing SLE, particularly at higher exposure levels. Existing studies are limited and show high heterogeneity, indicating a need for further research to confirm this association.

Predictors of the start of declining eGFR in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus

Terry Cheuk-Fung Yip et al.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the longitudinal trajectory of eGFR in SLE patients and identify predictors of change. Results revealed that patients with high blood pressure, low complement C4, low hematocrit, and high urine protein-to-creatinine ratio are more likely to have a declining eGFR trajectory, while the use of prednisone stabilizes the declining eGFR trajectory.
