A weak texture dependence of Hall-Petch relation in a rare-earth containing magnesium alloy

Jing Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a weak texture dependence of Hall-Petch slope (k) in a rare-earth containing Mg-2Zn-1Gd plate was reported, with similar k values for TD-tension and RD-tension. This characteristic can be well predicted by the compound use of activation stress difference and geometric compatibility factor, attributing the mechanism to the activation of a high fraction of additional deformation mode.

Uniaxial mechanical properties of face-centered cubic single- and multiphase high-entropy alloys

Haruyuki Inui et al.

Summary: Since the proposal of the high entropy concept at the beginning of the millennium, research on this alloy family has been diverse, aiming to enhance mechanical properties. Various strengthening mechanisms, such as solid-solution hardening, hot and cold working, and precipitation hardening, can be utilized to achieve this goal. Both single- and multiphase high- and medium-entropy alloys can be optimized for mechanical strength through different processing routes, similar to conventional alloys like steels or Ni-based superalloys with only one base element.

Nanostructure and local polymorphism in ideal-like rare-earths-based high-entropy alloys

Andreja Jelen et al.

Summary: Rare-earths-based hexagonal high-entropy alloys (HEAs) are closer to an ideal solid solution. Three candidates for ideal HEAs were synthesized through high-frequency levitation melting, exhibiting a nanostructure of hcp matrix and ccp precipitates. The lattice distortions caused by minute differences in atomic radii contribute to the nanostructure and the reduction of lattice strain energy.

Quantification of Solid Solution Strengthening and Internal Stresses through Creep Testing of Ni-Containing Single Crystals at 980 °C

Uwe Glatzel et al.

Summary: Various alloy compositions were tested for creep behavior in single crystal state, with solid solution strengthening and precipitation hardening identified as major strengthening mechanisms. Configurational entropy has minimal impact on creep strength, while element Re is an effective strengthener.
