Highly efficient and selective removal of Pb2+ by ultrafast synthesis of HKUST-1: Kinetic, isotherms and mechanism analysis

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized HKUST-1 MOF with excellent adsorption performance for Pb2+ in just one minute. The adsorption behavior was dominated by monolayer chemisorption, with potential mechanisms including ion exchange and coordination interaction. This work not only provides a new idea for Pb2+ removal using primary MOFs, but also has implications for constructing green and low-cost MOFs for heavy metal contaminated water treatment.

Preparation of amine-functionalized lignins for the selective adsorption of Methylene blue and Congo red

Ji Won Heo et al.

Summary: Research on low-cost bio-adsorbents for the removal of harmful substances from effluents has gained significant attention. This study prepared three types of amino-silane-modified lignins and investigated their adsorption behavior towards cationic and anionic dyes. The results showed that the amino-silane reagents resulted in different molecular self-assembly structures on the lignin surface. The ASLs exhibited excellent adsorption capacities and selectivity based on the pH conditions.

Review on nickel-based adsorption materials for Congo red

Yingqiu Zheng et al.

Summary: The excessive presence of synthetic dyestuffs in aquatic environments can lead to ecological and health issues that are harmful to sustainable development. Adsorption is considered an effective method for removing dye pollutants from water due to its efficiency, cost-effectiveness, ease of operation, and lack of secondary pollution. Among various dyes, Congo red is a commonly used azo dye. Nickel-based materials have been extensively studied for Congo red adsorption due to their diverse morphology, large specific surface area, and strong affinity towards Congo red. However, the challenge remains in creating nickel-based adsorbents with high efficiency, stability, and recyclability for practical applications.

Synthesis of nanoscale zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) using reverse micro-emulsion for Congo red adsorption

Xiao-qiang Cao et al.

Summary: This study developed a reverse micro-emulsion system to synthesize nano ZIF-8 material for efficient removal of Congo red dye from water. The synthesis conditions were optimized to achieve a nano ZIF-8 with a specific surface area of 1477 m(2)/g, showing a uniform particle size distribution of 15 to 35 nm. Adsorption of Congo red on nano ZIF-8 was found to be an endothermic process following pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models, with maximum predicted adsorption capacity of 1339.8 mg/g at 323 K. Adsorption mechanism analysis indicated electrostatic interactions and physical attractions including hydrogen bonds and pi-pi bond interactions play a major role.

Investigation of hierarchically porous zeolitic imidazolate frameworks for highly efficient dye removal

Xiaoling Wu et al.

Summary: The nucleotide incorporated zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (NZIF) demonstrated superior adsorption capacity for organic dye molecules compared to ZIF-8, with a maximum adsorption capacity 6-5 times higher. The presence of introduced nucleoside monophosphate enabled NZIF to function under acidic conditions and enhanced the adsorption capacity through hydrogen bonding, stacking interaction, and electrostatic forces. This study offers a new avenue for designing porous materials for environmental remediation.

Effect of cations on the enhanced adsorption of cationic dye in Fe3O4-loaded biochar and mechanism

Jinxi Xie et al.

Summary: Fe3O4-loaded biochar (MBC) was synthesized through oxygen-limited pyrolysis of FeCl3-impregnated sorghum straw biomass, showing higher adsorption capacity for cationic methylene blue (MB). The presence of cations with different valences positively affected the adsorption capacities of MBC for MB, and there was synergistic adsorption between MB and Cu2+/Zn2+/Cr3+. The mechanistic study indicated that MB molecules and Cu2+/Zn2+/Cr3+ acted as a bridge between adsorbed and unadsorbed pollutants, leading to improved synergistic adsorption between dyes and heavy metal cations.
