Catalytic System for Aerobic Oxidation That Simultaneously Functions as Its Own Redox Buffer

Xinlin Lu et al.

Summary: This study reports a catalytic system with its own built-in redox buffer, which can control the electrochemical potential of the solution and impact the products of redox reactions. The system consists of two highly synergistic components and can catalyze the aerobic oxidative deodorization of thiols. The study demonstrates the close relationship between the catalytic activity of the system and its redox buffering capability.

Polyoxidovanadates' interactions with proteins: An overview

Manuel Aureliano et al.

Summary: This review provides a detailed description of the interactions between polyoxidovanadates (POVs) and various proteins, as well as their pharmacological actions. X-ray crystallographic studies were used to investigate the interactions between POVs and specific proteins. Additionally, the interactions of POVs with proteins related to muscle contraction, serum, oxidative stress, and diabetes were discussed. The modes of interaction for POVs include H-bond, electrostatic, H-bond + electrostatic, van der Waals, and covalent binding.

Tetrabutyl Ammonium Salts of Keggin-Type Vanadium-Substituted Phosphomolybdates and Phosphotungstates for Selective Aerobic Catalytic Oxidation of Benzyl Alcohol

Juan Diaz et al.

Summary: A series of tetrabutyl ammonium salts of V-included Keggin-type polyoxoanions were prepared and characterized. The catalytic activity was found to be related to the number of V atoms present. Catalysts with higher V substitution degree exhibited higher activity.

A solvent-free solid catalyst for the selective and color-indicating ambient-air removal of sulfur mustard

Daniel L. Collins-Wildman et al.

Summary: A solid, solvent-free catalyst has been reported for selective oxidation decontamination of sulfur mustard using only ambient air at room temperature, removing HD and producing HDO. This system rapidly removes HD as a neat liquid or a vapor, and the mechanisms of these aerobic decontamination reactions have been confirmed to involve reversible formation of a key intermediate, the bromosulfonium ion, and the role of Cu(II) in increasing the rate four-fold.
