Pressurized liquid extraction of compounds from Stevia leaf: Evaluation of process variables and extract characterization

Djessica Tatiane Raspe et al.

Summary: The study investigated the extraction of compounds from Stevia rebaudiana leaves under pressurized conditions. The effect of ethanol percentage, static time, pressure, and temperature on extraction yield, phenolic content, and antioxidant activity was evaluated. Comparison was made between the extract obtained from pressurized liquid extraction, Soxhlet, and ultrasound-assisted extraction. The results showed that higher ethanol concentration in the solvent favored the response variables, while static time and pressure did not have a significant impact on the extraction.

Phenolic Compounds Recovery from Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) By-Products of Pressurized Liquid Extraction

Pamela R. Toledo-Merma et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the extraction of phenolic compounds from pomegranate residues using lower temperatures and pressures in pressurized liquid extraction (PLE). The results showed that PLE under low pressure and low temperature conditions could effectively extract phenolic compounds from pomegranate residues, making this process more competitive and sustainable for the pomegranate industry.

The phytochemical, biological, and medicinal attributes of phytoecdysteroids: An updated review

Niranjan Das et al.

Summary: PEs are a group of biologically-active plant steroids that act as secondary metabolites in plants, providing protection against phytophagus insects. Structurally similar to insect-molting hormones, they can cause insects to die when ingested. These phytoecdysteroids impact the growth processes of both plants and insects.

Conventional versus green extraction techniques - a comparative perspective

Carene Picot-Allain et al.

Summary: The revolutionary development of green technology has significantly influenced the recovery of natural compounds for the food industry, with novel extraction methods and the use of green solvents. While green extraction techniques are environmentally friendly and consider health and safety aspects, challenges such as capital investment and running costs are major barriers to their implementation.

Pressurized Liquid Extraction Optimization from Supercritical Defatted Olive Pomace: A Green and Selective Phenolic Extraction Process

Nikolaos Katsinas et al.

Summary: A intensified process using hydroalcoholic mixtures was proposed to maximize the recovery of phenolic compounds in olive pomace. Different conditions were found to optimize each key compound, resulting in a more efficient, selective, scalable, and environmentally friendly extraction process. The antioxidant activity also increased significantly under the optimal conditions.
