Graphene quantum dots: A comprehensive overview

Sheikh Ahmad Izaddin Sheikh Mohd Ghazali et al.

Summary: Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) are recognized as a new class of fluorescent carbon materials with prospective applications and exceptional features. The exceptional optoelectrical qualities of GQD have sparked curiosity since their debut in 2008. GQDs have shown potential in various fields such as catalysis, sensing, energy devices, drug delivery, bioimaging, photothermal, and photodynamic therapy.

Thioacetamide-derived nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon quantum dots for green quantum dot solar cells

Shahina Riaz et al.

Summary: In this study, nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon quantum dots (N, S-CQDs) were synthesized and employed in solar cells, achieving a relatively high power conversion efficiency (PCE). Although the achieved PCE is not satisfactory, the upgraded device fabrication and structural design may improve PCE and current densities.

Modern practices in electrophoretic deposition to manufacture energy storage electrodes

Barun Kumar Chakrabarti et al.

Summary: This article reviews the applications of electrophoretic deposition (EPD) in electrochemical energy storage (EES) devices. It highlights the selection of parameters for optimizing EPD electrode performance, such as light-directed EPD, co-deposition of active materials, and materials with high porosity and fibrous properties. It also discusses methods for overcoming obstacles in improving the mechanical properties, conductivity, and surface area of EES materials. The exceptional benefits of EPD, including low cost, small processing time, simple apparatus requirements, and homogeneous coatings, are emphasized. The article encourages further research and development programs to industrialize EPD processes for advanced solid electrolytes and separators in lithium-ion and/or sodium-ion batteries.

Carbon quantum dots-embedded graphitic carbon nitride nanotubes for enhancing the power conversion efficiency of sensitized solar cells

S. Riaz et al.

Summary: In this study, nitrogen-rich carbon quantum dot-embedded carbon nitride nanotubes were used as efficient light harvesters in quantum dot-sensitized solar cells for the first time, significantly improving the power conversion efficiency. The CCNT-sensitized solar cell achieved a PCE of 1.01% and demonstrated superior photostability.

Size Effect of Graphene Quantum Dots on Photoluminescence

Ziyi Liu et al.

Summary: High-photoluminescence graphene quantum dots were synthesized through a simple one-pot hydrothermal process and separated using dialysis bags of different molecular weights, resulting in four GQDs with varying sizes. As the size of the separated GQDs decreased, the intensity of the emission peak became stronger, with the smallest GQDs showing the most energetic PL intensity among the four separated GQDs. The PL energy of all separated GQDs shifted slightly, as supported by density functional theory calculations.
