Process Scale-Up of an Energy-Efficient Membrane Solvent Extraction Process for Rare Earth Recycling from Electronic Wastes

Syed Z. Islam et al.

Summary: This study reports on the scale-up and long-term performance of a membrane solvent extraction (MSX) process for separating and recovering high purity rare earth oxides (REOs) from scrap permanent magnets. The MSX process demonstrates high purity and yield of recovered REOs, with a scalable module design for industrial applications.

Summary: The ability of protic deep eutectic solvents (pNADES) to act as liquid scrubbers for absorbing CO2 has been investigated in this study. Histidine and Decanoic acid (H: DA) pNADES exhibited the highest solubility of CO2, and the solvent showed moderate recyclability with 86% reutilization after 3 absorption cycles.

Summary: Betaine-based natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) were immobilized into a porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) support for the separation of CO(2) from CO2/N(2) and CO2/CH(4) mixtures. The gas permeation results showed improved performance with NADES-SLMs compared to imidazolium-based-supported ionic liquid membranes.

Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Review of Fundamentals and Applications

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) exhibit significant depressions in melting points and tunable physicochemical properties, but there is still a lack of predictive understanding of their microscopic mechanisms and structure-property relationships. Research on complex hydrogen bonding is crucial for a deeper understanding and development of fundamental frameworks for DESs.

Molecular Mechanism and Absorption Performance Evaluation of CO2 Capture from the PCC Process by Monoethanolamine-Based Deep Eutectic Solvents

Wanxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the absorption performance of CO2 in deep eutectic solvents (DESs) was investigated using molecular dynamics simulation and process simulation. Key factors such as absorption mechanism and regeneration ability were discussed, and it was recommended to use 10% DES in industrial applications. The effects of temperature and water on the viscosity and absorption capacity of DES were studied, with the conclusion that increasing system temperature has a more positive effect on ChCl/monoethanolamine (MEA) viscosity than adding water. Additionally, the CO2 removal process of MEA-based DESs was modeled and simulated, showing a high CO2 capture rate and purity in the product gas.

Supported liquid membranes based on deep eutectic solvents for gas separation processes

Rita Craveiro et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic mixtures (DES) have shown promise as sustainable solvents, with applications in CO2 capture. This study focused on preparing different choline chloride DES and testing their CO2 solubility and diffusivity. Results indicated that DES composed of choline chloride and urea performed the best, especially when an enzyme for CO2 conversion was added. DES supported liquid membranes also showed high permeability towards CO2 and selectivity for CO2/CH4, making them a viable strategy for CO2 adsorption and separation processes.

Recent developments of deep eutectic solvent as absorbent for CO2 removal from syngas produced from gasification: Current status, challenges, and further research

Haryo Wibowo et al.

Summary: Gasification is increasingly used to convert solid fuel into combustible syngas, but the syngas often does not meet strict requirements and requires upgrading. CO2 removal is a common method, with deep eutectic solvent (DES) showing promise due to its high absorption performance and environmental friendliness. However, research on DES for CO2 removal from syngas is still in the early stages and more efforts are needed to explore its potential further.
