Adsorptive removal of metformin on specially designed algae-lignocellulosic biochar mix and techno-economic feasibility assessment

Goldy De Bhowmick et al.

Summary: The study found that activated macroalgae biochar (MACAC) and microalgae biochar (MICAC) exhibited superior adsorption performance for metformin hydrochloride (MET), with maximum adsorption occurring at a pH of 7 and up to 76% removal of MET. Activation strengthened chemisorption, leading to the formation of oxygen-containing surface functional groups, and the lowest zeta potential observed at pH 7 enhanced the electrostatic force of attraction for both biochars.

Adsorption and Kinetics Studies of Cr (VI) by Graphene Oxide and Reduced Graphene Oxide-Zinc Oxide Nanocomposite

Taiba Naseem et al.

Summary: The study utilized rGO-ZnO for removing Cr (VI) from aqueous medium, which was found to be more economical and promising than GO. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-first-order model, while the equilibrium study showed that the non-linear Langmuir model was a better fit. The calculated maximum adsorption capacities for GO and rGO-ZnO nanocomposite were 19.49 mg/g and 25.45 mg/g, respectively, with endothermic and spontaneous nature of adsorption detected.

Adsorption of Metformin on Activated Carbon Produced from the Water Hyacinth Biowaste Using H3PO4 as a Chemical Activator

Ahmad Hakky Mohammad et al.

Summary: Water hyacinth biomass was utilized for the synthesis of activated carbons via chemical activation with H3PO4 and controlled carbonization, resulting in an adsorbent with high specific surface area for efficient metformin removal. Experimental data modeling showed that the Langmuir isotherm model best described the metformin adsorption process, which was found to be a spontaneous and endothermic process. The activated carbon exhibited good performance and regeneration stability in removing metformin from water.

Adsorptive removal of noxious atrazine using graphene oxide nanosheets: Insights to process optimization, equilibrium, kinetics, and density functional theory calculations

S. Muthusaravanan et al.

Summary: Graphene oxide nanosheets were successfully prepared and studied as an adsorbent for atrazine removal from simulated wastewater. The adsorption of atrazine onto GO was found to be higher in acidic pH and lower temperature, and Langmuir isotherm was a suitable model for the adsorption process.
