An Integrated Driving/Charging Four-Phase Switched Reluctance Motor Drive With Reduced Current Sensors for Electric Vehicle Application

Vaibhav Shah et al.

Summary: This article proposes an integrated power converter (IPC) with driving/charging capabilities for a four-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive-based electric vehicle (EV) application. The IPC integrates three circuits and only requires two current sensors to measure phase currents. It functions as a Miller converter during the SRM driving mode and as an on-board battery charger during battery charging mode.

Direct Electric Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) Power Transfer Using On-Board Drivetrain and Motor Windings

B. S. Umesh et al.

Summary: Vehicle to vehicle (V2V) energy sharing is proposed as an alternate solution to address the range anxiety and limited charging infrastructure challenges of electric vehicles (EVs). This article presents a new V2V interface that directly connects the motor winding neutrals and negative rails of on-board drivetrains to form an integrated bidirectional dc-dc converter, allowing control of power flow direction. The proposed approach eliminates the need for reconfiguration of motor winding or drivetrain connections. A scaled lab prototype is developed to demonstrate the energy sharing between two lithium-ion battery banks through this direct V2V power transfer concept.

Integrated G2V/V2G Switched Reluctance Motor Drive With Sensing Only Switch-Bus Current

Hung-Chi Chen et al.

Summary: The article introduces an integrated drive for a three-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM), which integrates a bidirectional dc/dc converter powered by a battery for bidirectional power transfer without the need for relay reconfiguration or additional charging/discharging units and circuit components. Only one physical current sensor is utilized to provide all current signals for SRM driving and grid-to-vehicle/vehicle-to-grid functions at a standstill. The proposed integrated drive and its control are successfully demonstrated through the results provided.
