Peptide-Encapsulated Single-Wall Carbon Nanotube-Based Near-Infrared Optical Nose for Bacteria Detection and Classification

Vlad Shumeiko et al.

Summary: The sense of smell has been used for diagnostics throughout human history, and animals have been used to diagnose various medical conditions. In recent years, electronic and optical noses have gained interest in the diagnosis and classification of bacterial infections. This study presents the development of a near-infrared optical sniffer comprised of peptide-encapsulated carbon nanotubes for bacteria detection and classification. The sensors successfully distinguished between different odors and demonstrated the possibility of antibiotics susceptibility testing.

Magnitudes and patterns of large-scale permafrost ground deformation revealed by Sentinel-1 InSAR on the central Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Jie Chen et al.

Summary: By developing a permafrost-tailored InSAR approach, the study reconstructs seasonal and long-term deformation of permafrost and finds that ground deformation is mainly controlled by factors such as slope angle, with warm and ice-rich permafrost regions being more vulnerable to extensive long-term subsidence. Additionally, different types of permafrost regions exhibit varying deformation patterns.

Data Fusion for Multi-Source Sensors Using GA-PSO-BP Neural Network

Jiguo Liu et al.

Summary: The development of real-time road condition systems improves the monitoring of road network operations, but the key challenge lies in the need for comprehensive and reliable data. A multi-source data fusion model, combining data from floating vehicles and microwave sensors, using GA-PSO-BP neural network, has been proposed to enhance traffic speed estimation accuracy. By ingeniously combining GA and PSO, this hybrid model overcomes traditional fusion model limitations and achieves 98% data accuracy in simulations.

Design of Multisensor Electronic Nose Based on Conformal Sensor Chamber

Junhui Qian et al.

Summary: This article combines conventional e-nose technology with VOCs enrichment technology to design a novel preconcentration system and conformal sensor chamber. The optimum sweeping speed of the preconcentration system based on the conformal sensor chamber is determined through FLUENT simulation analysis. Experimental results show that the sweeping speed obtained by the Newton method demonstrates optimal performance in exhaled gases of healthy people and patients.

A Weighted Discriminative Extreme Learning Machine Design for Lung Cancer Detection by an Electronic Nose System

Leilei Zhao et al.

Summary: This article discusses a study on lung cancer detection using electronic nose technology, proposing a weighted discriminative extreme learning machine (WDELM) for lung cancer diagnosis that outperforms conventional methods, especially in handling unbalanced class distribution. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of WDELM in lung cancer diagnosis.
