AI-Based Mobility-Aware Energy Efficient Resource Allocation and Trajectory Design for NFV Enabled Aerial Networks

Mohsen Pourghasemian et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel joint intelligent trajectory design and resource allocation algorithm is proposed for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) assisted networks. The algorithm maximizes energy efficiency and minimizes average delay by allocating limited radio and NFV resources. The problem is formulated to find optimal locations of UAVs, transmit power, subcarrier assignment, VNF placement, and VNF scheduling, and a hierarchical hybrid continuous and discrete action (HHCDA) deep reinforcement learning method is proposed. Simulation results show improved performance compared to the state-of-the-art Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient method.

Average AoI Minimization in UAV-Assisted Data Collection With RF Wireless Power Transfer: A Deep Reinforcement Learning Scheme

Lingshan Liu et al.

Summary: This article studies the wireless powered network assisted by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), where the UAV charges ground nodes (GNs) wirelessly and the GNs use their harvested energy to upload information to the UAV. An optimization problem is formulated to minimize the average Age of Information (AoI) of the GNs by optimizing the trajectory of the UAV and the scheduling of information transmission and energy harvesting of GNs. A deep Q network (DQN)-based scheme is proposed to find a near-optimal solution. Simulation results demonstrate the convergence of the proposed DQN scheme and its superiority in terms of average AoI compared to other known schemes.

AoI-Minimal Trajectory Planning and Data Collection in UAV-Assisted Wireless Powered IoT Networks

Huimin Hu et al.

Summary: This article investigates a UAV-assisted wireless powered Internet-of-Things system, formulating an optimization problem to minimize the average Age of Information (AoI) of data collected from all ground sensor nodes. By decomposing the problem into two subproblems and using dynamic programming and ant colony heuristic algorithms, optimal solutions are found for reducing the average AoI of the system. The results demonstrate that the flying altitude of the UAV and the size of collected data at each ground sensor node have a linear impact on the average AoI.

Neural Combinatorial Deep Reinforcement Learning for Age-Optimal Joint Trajectory and Scheduling Design in UAV-Assisted Networks

Aidin Ferdowsi et al.

Summary: This article discusses a UAV-assisted wireless network where a battery-constrained UAV moves towards energy-constrained ground nodes to minimize Age of Information values through optimized flight trajectory and status updates scheduling. An initial mixed-integer program is formulated and a convex optimization-based solution is proposed for the UAV's optimal trajectory and updates scheduling. Additionally, a finite-horizon Markov decision process and neural combinatorial-based deep reinforcement learning algorithm are used to find the optimal scheduling policy, especially in large-scale scenarios.

UAV-Aided Data Collection for Information Freshness in Wireless Sensor Networks

Juan Liu et al.

Summary: This work investigates the UAV-enabled data collection problem for high information freshness in wireless sensor networks, formulating two optimization problems to minimize the maximal and average Age of Information (AoI) of Sensor Nodes (SNs). It proposes an iterative SN association and trajectory planning policy to seek age-optimal solutions, striking a balance between SNs' uploading time and UAV's flight time through optimized clustering weight.
