A Wearable System Composed of FBG-Based Soft Sensors for Trunk Compensatory Movements Detection in Post-Stroke Hemiplegic Patients

Daniela Lo Presti et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel wearable system for identifying compensatory trunk movements in post-stroke hemiplegic patients. The system, composed of soft sensing elements based on fiber Bragg grating technology, demonstrates good potential in detecting these movements and can be used for multi-point measurements without movement restrictions. The results indicate that this wearable system can aid in assessing and improving the motor recovery and quality of life for post-stroke patients.

Application of the principal components analysis technique to optical fiber sensors for acetone detection

J. L. Rodriguez-Garciapina et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the application of principal components analysis (PCA) to the response of fiber optical sensors for acetone detection, and the development of two types of acetone sensors based on single LPFG and MZI, coated with PDMS. The results show that under the same conditions, the sensitivity of MZI sensors is increased by 13 times compared to single LPFG sensors, with a detection limit of 170 ppm.

Workplace sitting is associated with self-reported general health and back/neck pain: a cross-sectional analysis in 44,978 employees

Lena V. Kallings et al.

Summary: Sitting for most of the time at work without breaks is associated with increased risk of self-reported poor general health and back/neck pain. Taking breaks from prolonged sitting, regular exercise, and reducing leisure time sitting are recommended for individuals who sit for most of their time at work to reduce the risk of poor health.
