Maternal, Fetal, and Neonatal Outcomes of Elective Fetal Reduction Among Multiple Gestation Pregnancies: A Systematic Review

Jemimah Raffe-Devine et al.

Summary: This literature review examines the effects of elective pregnancy reduction on fetal and maternal health outcomes. The findings suggest that reduction can improve gestational age at birth and birth weight, while reducing the risks of preterm birth and intrauterine growth restriction. However, the effects on maternal health outcomes are inconclusive and further research is needed.

Short-term and long-term outcomes of trichorionic triplet pregnancies with expectant management

Ji Yeon Lee et al.

Summary: Reproductive endocrinologists suggest selective multifetal pregnancy reduction to save at least one or two babies in triplet pregnancies. However, recent advancements in obstetric and neonatal care may change the outcomes. This study compared the outcomes of expectant management and reduction to twins in triplet pregnancies, showing that expectant management could improve neonatal survival and reduce the risk of developmental delay.

Summary: Comparing outcomes of reducing higher-order multiple pregnancies to DCDA twins, reduced twins show similar obstetric and perinatal outcomes as primary twins, but have significantly higher adverse outcomes compared to singletons.

Pregnancy and obstetric outcomes of dichorionic and trichorionic triamniotic triplet pregnancy with multifetal pregnancy reduction: a retrospective analysis study

Shuhua Liu et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the difference between DCTA and TCTA pregnancies with or without MFPR, as well as the comparison between dichorionic and monochorionic twins. The results show that MFPR can improve pregnancy outcomes and reduce complications in DCTA and TCTA pregnancies, while monochorionic twins have worse outcomes.

Epidemiological trends of maternal hypertensive disorders of pregnancy at the global, regional, and national levels: a population-based study

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: Global studies on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy show an increase in incidence but a decrease in age-standardized incidence rates. Deaths due to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy decreased by 30.05% in 2019 compared to 1990. The highest incidence and mortality rates were observed in the 25-29 age group, with higher rates in countries and regions with lower sociodemographic indices and human development indices.

Iron Deficiency Anemia in Pregnancy

Andra H. James

Summary: Anemia, characterized by low red blood cell count, hematocrit, or hemoglobin concentration, is common during pregnancy and may impact maternal and fetal health. Screening with a complete blood count can help diagnose anemia, with oral iron as the first-line treatment option.
