A new approach to quantification of groundwater resource stress

Mehri Tabarmayeh et al.

Summary: This study presents new indicators and a framework for quantifying groundwater stress intensity in the Mond basin, considering hydrogeological and anthropogenic factors. The proposed approach is able to identify vulnerable aquifers with high intensity of groundwater stress and assess the impact of different scenarios on aquifer response.

Coupled modelling approach to assess effects of climate change on a coastal groundwater system

Q. D. Lam et al.

Summary: The study assessed the impact of future climate change on groundwater resources in a coastal area of Vietnam using a modelling approach. Results showed a projected decrease in future rainfall leading to significant decreases in groundwater recharge and levels, particularly in the dry season.

Groundwater quality trend and trend reversal assessment in the European Water Framework Directive context: an example with nitrates in Italy

Eleonora Frollini et al.

Summary: Groundwater resources are vital for sustaining water ecosystems and human activities. Early actions are needed to address the long-lasting impacts from anthropogenic activities. European Union policies, such as the Water Framework Directive, require Member States to identify and reverse significant upward trends in pollutant concentrations, with Italy recently publishing official guidelines for trend analysis. Various statistical methods, such as the Mann-Kendall test and Sen's method, are proposed for trend analysis and estimation of concentration scenarios.

Investigation of Groundwater Depletion in the State of Qatar and Its Implication to Energy Water and Food Nexus

Hazrat Bilal et al.

Summary: Groundwater is a vital freshwater resource relied upon by agriculture, particularly in arid regions with limited water resources. However, increasing population, urbanization, and climate change have put pressure on groundwater, leading to depletion in thickness and rise in temperature. Through statistical analysis and satellite data, it is evident that corrective measures are needed to mitigate long-term risks to ecosystems.
