Paleoproterozoic emplacement and Cambrian ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism of a layered magmatic intrusion from the Central Madurai Block, southern India: From Columbia to Gondwana

Bing Yu et al.

Summary: The study reports the discovery of a dismembered layered mafic-ultramafic intrusion associated with Mg-Al granulites in the Madurai Block of the Southern Granulite Terrane. The rock types and mineral compositions were analyzed to determine the metamorphic conditions and geological ages, and the intrusion was correlated to a Paleoproterozoic suprasubduction zone setting.

Global metallogeny in relation to secular evolution of the Earth and supercontinent cycles

M. Santosh et al.

Summary: Mineral systems with their core of ore deposits play a crucial role in Earth's thermal and tectonic evolution, controlling the assembly and breakup of supercontinents. Plate tectonics has been operating on Earth since the Eoarchean, and the evolution of Earth's atmosphere-hydrosphere-biosphere system also influences the formation of mineral deposits.

Early Evolution of the Adelaide Superbasin

Jarred C. Lloyd et al.

Summary: The Adelaide Superbasin in Australia is one of the largest and best-preserved rift systems that formed during the breakup of Rodinia. Through the study of new detrital zircon age data and existing literature, a new model for the early evolution of the superbasin is proposed. The model suggests that the basin went through two phases of rift activity and formed by propagating towards an apparent triple junction.

Mesoarchean (ultra)-high temperature and high-pressure metamorphism along a microblock suture: Evidence from Earth's oldest khondalites in southern India

Bing Yu et al.

Summary: This study presents new petrological and U-Pb age data from one of Earth's oldest khondalite belts, revealing a high P-T metamorphism during the Mesoarchean period, indicating plate tectonics had been established on Earth by at least around 3.1 billion years ago.

Global type area charnockites in southern India revisited: Implications for Earth's oldest supercontinent

Cheng-Xue Yang et al.

Summary: The research discovered that the charnockites in India are felsic to intermediate anhydrous granulite rocks, interacting with mafic enclaves and showing geochemical features consistent with subduction-related arc setting. Zircon grains exhibit early magmatic structures and later metamorphic processes. The magmatic ages range from about 2.53-2.57 Ga, while the metamorphic ages range from about 2.47-2.49 Ga.

Petrogenesis and U-Pb geochronology of charnockites flanking the Pranhita Godavari rift in peninsular India-link between the Bastar and Eastern Dharwar Cratons

Tushar Meshram et al.

Summary: Charnockites found in the granulite belts of the Godavari rift in India show similarities in geological features and mineral composition, indicating their coeval formation around 2.5 billion years ago as part of a potential Ur-supercontinent. The subsequent splitting of this landmass along the Pranhita-Godavari rift formed the Bastar and Dharwar cratons, with the rift valley eventually developing into a sedimentary basin that separated the two cratons on the map.

Evidence for Mesoarchean subduction in Southern Bundelkhand Craton, India: Geochemical fingerprints from metavolcanics of Kurrat-Girar-Badwar Greenstone Belt

Sikha Hiloidari et al.

Summary: The metavolcanic suites from southern Bundelkhand Craton, India are slightly evolved tholeiitic basalts originating from a slightly enriched heterogeneous mantle source at shallower depths and exhibit characteristics of back-arc basin basalts. The formation of these metavolcanics is attributed to a modern style Mesoarchean extension-subduction geodynamic regime.

Ocean Plate Stratigraphy of a long-lived Precambrian subduction-accretion system: The Wutai Complex, North China Craton

Pin Gao et al.

Summary: The OPS sequence in the Wutai Complex provides evidence of a prolonged subduction-accretion-collision system and continental growth during the Neoarchean-Paleoproterozoic. The rocks in Wutai show transitional features between normal mid-ocean ridge basalt and enriched mid-ocean ridge basalt, suggesting interaction of high-temperature hydrothermal fluids and seawater. Zircon U-Pb and Lu-Hf data indicate a tectonic evolution with stages of subduction initiation, arc-accretionary complex, back-arc rifting, and arc-continent collision.
