Root exudates shift how N mineralization and N fixation contribute to the plant-available N supply in low fertility soils

Yuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of root exudates on microbial-mediated nitrogen transformations in low fertility soils through laboratory incubation. The results showed that different root exudates influenced soil respiration, dissolved organic carbon, and dissolved organic nitrogen concentrations. Analysis of measured pools revealed that the recovery of root exudate carbon was lower in sandy loam soil. Additionally, organic acids had a greater impact on nitrogen mineralization and fixation rates. Root exudate addition also altered soil pH and organic nitrogen concentrations.

Temperature Sensitivity of Freshwater Denitrification and N2O Emission-A Meta-Analysis

Mandy Velthuis et al.

Summary: This study investigated the temperature sensitivity of denitrification and N2O emissions in freshwater ecosystems worldwide using a meta-analytic approach. The results showed that environmental nitrogen concentrations, pH, and O-2 were strongly correlated with the temperature sensitivity of denitrification, while N2O emissions were not correlated with these factors. Furthermore, the temperature sensitivity of N2O emissions in Australia and New Zealand was significantly higher than in other geographic regions.

Anaerobic ammoniumoxidation (anammox) is the mainmicrobial N loss pathway in alpine wetland soils of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Yuqian Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution, abundance, and biodiversity of anammox bacteria in alpine wetlands on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, showing their key role in nitrogen cycling and close relationship with environmental variables. The results highlighted the importance of anammox bacteria in high-altitude alpine wetlands and expanded our understanding of their community dynamics and environmental significance.
