Signal-to-noise ratio computation for challenging land single-sensor seismic data

Andrey Bakulin et al.

Summary: This study explores practical methods of estimating the signal-to-noise ratio of challenging seismic data, particularly in a desert environment with single-sensor surveys. The study reveals that reliable estimation of the signal-to-noise ratio can be achieved using an ensemble of seismic traces, and identifies a stacking-based method as the most robust approach with a broad range of applicability.

Review of Time-Frequency Masking Approach for Improving Speech Intelligibility in Noise

Gibak Kim

Summary: In the past decade, time-frequency masking techniques have been explored to improve speech intelligibility in noise, with binary and soft masking methods being the main approaches. Binary masking retains time-frequency units where target speech is stronger than noise, while soft masking can take any value between 0 and 1, closely related to the Wiener filter gain in the frequency domain.

Multiplicative random seismic noise caused by small-scale near-surface scattering and its transformation during stacking

Andrey Bakulin et al.

Summary: This study reveals that land seismic data in complex areas exhibit weak and distorted prestack reflections with low coherency. The researchers explain this phenomenon by introducing multiplicative random noise, represented by random timeshifts and random phase perturbations. They speculate that these multiplicative distortions can be attributed to near-surface scattering layers with small-to-medium-scale geologic heterogeneities. The findings of this study also provide theoretical justification for previously proposed methods of addressing random multiplicative noise in seismic processing.
