Toward economic growth without emissions growth: the role of urbanization & industrialization in Pakistan

Sher Khan et al.

Summary: This study examines the decoupling of economic activity from environmental impact and its main drivers in Pakistan from 1980 to 2018. The results show that Pakistan has experienced expensive negative decoupling for multiple years. Carbon intensity and urbanization are identified as the main decoupling drivers, while industrialization and economic growth hinder the decoupling progress.

Evaluating the asymmetric effects of nuclear energy on carbon emissions in Pakistan

Muhammad Tariq Majeed et al.

Summary: Achieving sustainable development requires an increasing share of green technologies to meet the rising energy demand, especially in developing economies. This study examines the asymmetric effects of nuclear energy on carbon emissions in Pakistan and finds that nuclear energy has a negative and significant impact on emissions in both short and long run.

Sustainable economic development in India: The dynamics between financial inclusion, ICT development, and economic growth

Rudra P. Pradhan et al.

Summary: The paper examines the shortrun and long-run dynamics between economic growth, financial inclusion initiatives, and ICT infrastructure development in 20 Indian states from 1991 to 2018. Using the Granger-causality technique, evidence of strong temporal causality between these variables in the short and long term is demonstrated. The empirical results suggest that careful coordination of ICT infrastructure development, financial inclusion initiatives, and economic growth strategies is crucial for sustainable economic development in these Indian states.

Critical provincial transmission sectors for carbon dioxide emissions in China

Wen Wen et al.

Summary: The identification of critical provincial transmission sectors for CO2 emissions is crucial for achieving China's mitigation goals. Using a betweenness-based method, this study found that some sectors in the intermediate supply chains are important for emission transmission but often overlooked. Understanding the spatiotemporal variations in critical sectors can inform region-specific policy formulation for CO2 mitigation, highlighting the importance of considering betweenness-based results as a complement to policy decisions.

Decoupling and decomposition analysis of environmental impact from economic growth: a comparative analysis of Pakistan, India, and China

Ilhan Ozturk et al.

Summary: This study examines the decoupling of CO2 emissions from economic growth in Pakistan, India, and China from 1990 to 2014. Results show that environmental impact has been decoupled from economic growth in these countries, but challenges remain. Energy intensity is a key factor supporting decoupling, while population, affluence, and energy structure hinder progress.

CO2 emissions and the role of urbanization in East Asian and Pacific countries

Usman Mehmood et al.

Summary: The study found that urbanization has varying effects on CO2 emissions in different countries, suggesting that Singapore, Macao, and South Korea should promote green energy in urban areas for sustainable development. Policy makers should reconsider trade and urbanization policies in the region to achieve a healthy and sustainable environment.
