The eye of the storm: a regular Kerr black hole

Alex Simpson et al.

Summary: In this study, a highly tractable non-singular modification of the Kerr geometry, known as the eye of the storm, is analyzed in detail. The physics in this spacetime becomes extraordinarily manageable compared to similar candidates in the literature, making it suitable for straightforward extraction of astrophysical observables falsifiable or verifiable by the experimental community.

Quest for realistic non-singular black-hole geometries: regular-center type

Hideki Maeda

Summary: In this paper, seven criteria are proposed to identify physically reasonable non-singular black hole models. These criteria are applied to four different spherically symmetric models, leading to the elimination of certain well-known non-singular black holes. The remaining models that satisfy the dominant energy condition and have no significant curvature singularities or closed timelike curves are discussed. However, the presence of parallelly propagated curvature singularities remains an open question.

Rotating black holes in Horndeski gravity: thermodynamic and gravitational lensing

Rahul Kumar Walia et al.

Summary: The lack of rotating black holes in nature makes it difficult to test modified gravity from astrophysical observations. In this study, we investigate the axially symmetric counterpart of an existing spherical hairy black hole in Horndeski gravity with an additional deviation parameter Q. We find that the parameter Q affects the geometry of rotating black holes and analytically deduce the gravitational deflection angle of light in the weak-field limit. Additionally, we show that the astrophysical implications of lensing by this object can be used to constrain the value of parameter Q.

Image features of spinning regular black holes based on a locality principle

Astrid Eichhorn et al.

Summary: Researchers establish a link between theoretical developments and observational features of black holes by constructing a family of spinning, regular black-hole spacetimes and analyzing their shadow images. They identify characteristic image features linked to regularity and the locality principle, and suggest these features as universal in distinct classes of regular black holes based on different sets of construction principles for the corresponding spacetimes.

A novel family of rotating black hole mimickers

Jacopo Mazza et al.

Summary: With the recent introduction of gravitational wave astronomy, discussion about black hole mimickers has shifted from theoretical to phenomenological. In the absence of a definitive quantum gravity theory, the appeal of using simple metageometries to describe alternative phenomenologically viable scenarios is significant. The metric proposed by Simpson and Visser provides an example of such meta-geometry, allowing for the description of different non-rotating black hole mimickers for varying values of a single parameter.

From a locality-principle for new physics to image features of regular spinning black holes with disks

Astrid Eichhorn et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the true nature of black holes by constructing regular black-hole spacetimes based on new-physics models, characterizing them by curvature invariants, and analyzing features such as the shadow shape and photon rings. Simulated images of the regular spinning black hole are generated to test the visibility of characteristic features in the intensity map, providing insights into the new-physics effects.

Constraints on black-hole charges with the 2017 EHT observations of M87*

Prashant Kocherlakota et al.

Summary: Recent measurements by the Event Horizon Telescope have improved our understanding of strong gravity near supermassive compact objects. By using the shadow size of M87*, constraints on the physical charges of various types of nonrotating or rotating black holes can be inferred, helping rule out certain types of highly charged black holes. Additionally, considering black holes with two physical and independent charges allows for the exclusion of significant regions in the parameter space for specific types of black holes.
