Effect of particle size on the dielectric properties of 0.5Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3-0.5 (Ba0.7Ca0.8)TiO3/polyvinylidene fluoride hybrid films

0.5Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O-3-0.5(Ba0.7Ca0.8)TiO3 (BZT BCT) micro-ceramics were prepared by the solid phase method and sintered at 1400 degrees C for different times. BZT BCT/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hybrid films with 40 vol% filler were also prepared via in melt blending polymerization. For all BZT-BCT micro-ceramics, the dielectric permittivity increased with increasing sintering time. While for BZT-BCT/PVDF hybrid films, the dielectric permittivity decreased with increasing particle size. The dielectric permittivity of the hybrid film sintered for 0.5 h was 37.2 at 10 Hz, which was larger than that of hybrid films with fillers sintered for 1, 2, and 4 h. These results indicated that the permittivity of hybrid films was affected by the different particle sizes of BZT-BCT ceramics and that the interfacial polarization effect is an important feature of BZT-BCT/PVDF composite films.
