Radiofrequency ablation vs radiation therapy vs transarterial chemoembolization vs yttrium 90 for local treatment of liver cancer - a systematic review and network Meta-Analysis of survival data

Ronald Chow et al.

Summary: Various treatment modalities for HCC showed similar overall survival outcomes, but differences were observed in progression-free survival. Further studies are needed to focus on additional indicators to determine the optimal treatment choice.

Differential prognoses among male and female patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Cheng-Yen Liao et al.

Summary: The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is higher in men than women, but the impact of sex disparities on HCC outcomes remains unclear. This retrospective study compared the clinical manifestations and prognoses of male and female HCC patients. Male patients were younger at diagnosis and had better liver function, but had greater tumor burdens. Fewer male patients underwent curative therapies. The 5-year overall survival rates were slightly higher in female patients. Female sex was associated with lower mortality in younger patients but not in older patients with HCC.

Radiofrequency ablation versus stereotactic body radiation therapy for small (≤ 3 cm) hepatocellular carcinoma: A retrospective comparison analysis

Yuri Jeong et al.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) in small hepatocellular carcinoma patients, finding comparable results in terms of local control rates, overall survival rates, and intrahepatic recurrence-free survival rates. SBRT appears to be a viable alternative method for small hepatocellular carcinomas that are not suitable for RFA due to tumor location.

Stereotactic body radiation therapy versus radiofrequency ablation in patients with small hepatocellular carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Jiawei Hong et al.

Summary: This study found that small HCC patients treated with SBRT had a significantly lower 2-year overall survival rate compared to those treated with RFA, but a higher rate of local progression within 2 years. There was no significant difference in the local and liver toxicities between the two treatments.

Radiofrequency ablation versus stereotactic body radiotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma: a meta-analysis

Huimei Zhang et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis compared the efficacy of RFA and SBRT in treating HCC patients, finding that RFA had better outcomes in terms of improving survival rates and reducing local disease progression, whereas SBRT achieved superior local control of tumor tissues.
