Design of efficient ZnO/ZrO2 modified CuCoAl catalysts for boosting higher alcohol synthesis in syngas conversion

Chao Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, ZnO modified ZrO2 composite was added to CuCoAl catalyst to enhance the synthesis of higher alcohols, resulting in the CCA vertical bar ZnO/ZrO2 (4:1) catalyst showing the highest total alcohols selectivity and best C2+OH/ROH fraction. The surface [H*]/[C*] ratio of the modified catalysts increased with the rise of ZnO/ZrO2 ratio, leading to a higher ROH selectivity and space time yield of total alcohols (STYROH) for the CCA vertical bar ZnO/ZrO2 (4:1) catalyst.

Cu-Zn Synergy for CO Hydrogenation to Ethanol and Methanol on CuZnO Catalysts

Jie Gong et al.

Summary: Catalysts with different Cu/Zn ratios were prepared and investigated for CO hydrogenation. The number of Cu+ sites plays a crucial role in syngas conversion, with more surface Cu+ content favoring ethanol synthesis and less favoring methanol synthesis. Additionally, oxygen vacancies contribute to stronger Cu-Zn interaction, benefiting ethanol selectivity.

CuZnAlOOH catalysts with Cu0/Cu+ constructed by two-step hydrolysis for ethanol production from syngas

Yinting Gu et al.

Summary: In this study, a CuZnAlOOH catalyst with adjustable Cu-0/Cu+ ratios was prepared and two catalysts with different morphologies were obtained. The hydrogenation of intermediates and the production of hydrocarbons were controlled by embedding Cu-0 grains in an oxide flake or wrapping Cu-0 grains in an oxide. The distribution and yield of ethanol synthesis varied depending on surface Cu-0/(Cu-0 + Cu+) ratios.

Direct Conversion of Syngas to Higher Alcohols over Multifunctional Catalyst: The Role of Copper-Based Component and Catalytic Mechanism

Caiqi Wang et al.

Summary: A series of multifunctional catalysts containing CoMn oxides and different Cu-based components were constructed to investigate the influence of a Cu component on higher-alcohol synthesis. It was found that Cu-based components with different methanol synthesis activity showed different promotional effects for higher-alcohol synthesis. The study revealed a link between methanol synthesis and higher-alcohol synthesis, indicating that formed CHxO* species over the Cu-based components bridged the CoMn and Cu-based component to promote the formation of higher alcohols.

Investigation of alkaline complexant on ethanol synthesis from syngas over slurry CuZnAlOOH catalyst

Nan Cui et al.

Summary: The addition of alkaline complexants significantly improved both the CO conversion rate and selectivity towards ethanol and higher alcohols, while reducing the formation of dimethyl ether and decreasing the deactivation rate of the catalysts. These catalysts promoted by alkaline complexants showed increased selectivity for ethanol and improved stability in a slurry bed reactor.
