Co-pyrolysis of sewage sludge and lignocellulosic biomass: Synergistic effects on products characteristics and kinetics

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: This study reveals significant synergistic effects in the co-pyrolysis of sewage sludge and corn stalk, resulting in increased bio-oil yield and decreased char yield. The addition of corn stalk also affects the response order of functional groups in bio-oil. Furthermore, the co-pyrolysis promotes the production of phenols and furans while inhibiting the production of oxygen heterocycles and nitrogen compounds, which is beneficial for the subsequent utilization of bio-oil. The research findings provide practical and new insights into a cleaner and more efficient co-pyrolysis strategy.

Characteristics of torrefied fuel pellets obtained from co-pelletization of agriculture residues with pyrolysis oil

Tumpa Rani Sarker et al.

Summary: This study investigated the co-pelletizing characteristics of agricultural wastes to convert low value by-products into high value fuel pellets. Pyrolysis bio-oil was used as a binder, and microwave torrefaction was conducted to improve the properties of the pellets. The results showed that co-pelletization can enhance mechanical strength and durability of pellets, while torrefaction increased heating value and porosity of the pellets.
