Study on the global and spatial pulsation frequencies of rectangular syngas jet fire with different aspect ratios

Kun Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pulsation behaviors and dominating mechanism of rectangular jet fires. Experimental results showed the global and spatial pulsation frequencies of syngas jet flame, and a transition from natural pulsation to subharmonic pulsation was observed. The global pulsation frequency was found to be dominated by different mechanisms depending on the fuel flow rate.

Pulverized biomass flame under imposed acoustic oscillations: Flame morphology and emission characteristics

Marcelo Dal Belo Takehara et al.

Summary: Forced intermittent combustion with periodical variations of pressure, velocity, and air-fuel ratios is a promising method to increase combustion efficiency and reduce emissions. In this study, flame characteristics and emissions from a pulverized biomass burner were investigated under oscillations induced by acoustic-driven synthetic jet. The results showed that acoustic forcing decreased the flame liftoff distance and had an impact on particle dispersion and fuel-air mixing, leading to earlier ignition and reduced CO emissions. Flue gas emissions were mainly influenced by particle size distribution, with 63-112 μm particles showing the lowest CO values and highest NO levels.

Soot formation in n-heptane/air laminar diffusion flames: Effect of toluene addition

Xiaokang Nie et al.

Summary: In this study, the mixture of n-heptane and toluene was used as a surrogate fuel for diesel. The flame morphology, particle size, and soot deposition of three kinds of fuel blends were investigated using various microscopy techniques. The results showed that the addition of toluene promoted the formation of soot and influenced its morphology and structure.

Soot formation in n-heptane/air laminar diffusion flames: Effect of toluene addition

Xiaokang Nie et al.

Summary: This study investigated the particle size, nanostructure, microcrystalline size, and soot deposition morphology of three different fuel laminar diffusion flames of n-heptane and toluene blends using TEM, HRTEM, XRD, and FESEM. Results showed that with an increase in toluene content, flame height increased, temperature decreased, PAH content increased, promoting soot formation with larger particle size. Additionally, the graphitization degree of soot increased with toluene content, leading to larger fringe length and microcrystalline width.

The experimental study of flame height and lift-off height of propane diffusion flames diluted by carbon dioxide

Changfa Tao et al.

Summary: The study examined the flame height and lift-off height of a turbulent jet diffusion flame under different conditions. Experimental results showed that the flame height initially increased and then decreased with an increase in CO2 concentration, while the lift-off height increased with CO2 concentration.

Experimental study of buoyancy-induced instability in the DME and LPG jet diffusion flame

G. Mahesh Nayak et al.

Summary: An experimental study on buoyant jet diffusion flames investigated the interaction between fuel jet and outer vortex, showing that their interaction leads to radial expansion of the leading vortex and subharmonic frequency generation. The study revealed large-scale coherent structure in the region of subharmonic oscillation due to merging successive vortices, occurring near the tube exit.

Flame characteristics of propane-air-carbon dioxide blends at elevated temperatures and pressures

Ziyu Wang et al.

Summary: Propane as an alternative refrigerant is considered due to its low Global Warming Potential and zero Ozone Depletion Potential, and blending it with CO2 can reduce fire safety concerns. CO2 enhances flame stability and decreases laminar burning speed when mixed with propane, affecting flame instability.
