Kinetic studies on the extraction of oil from a new feedstock (Chukrasia tabularis L. seed) for biodiesel production using a heterogeneous catalyst

Yuvanashree Eswaramoorthi et al.

Summary: This study identified a new feedstock, Chukrasia tabularis L. seed, for biodiesel production and examined the kinetics and thermodynamics of the extraction process. The study also developed a modified aryl diazonium salt reduction process to synthesize a heterogeneous acid catalyst for the biodiesel reaction.

A comprehensive review on dairy waste-scum as a potential feedstock for biodiesel production

K. V. Yatish et al.

Summary: The rise in crude oil prices and feedstock crisis have led to the exploration of using industrial wastes, such as dairy waste scum, for biodiesel production. This review provides an overview of the production, engine feasibility, and economic viability of dairy waste scum derived biodiesel. It discusses various catalysts that can be used for production and examines the feasibility of using this biodiesel in engines. An economic analysis is also presented to demonstrate its viability. The review concludes with suggestions for future research and development.

A Comparative Study of Milk Fat Extracted from the Milk of Different Goat Breeds in China: Fatty Acids, Triacylglycerols and Thermal and Spectroscopic Characterization

Sameh A. Korma et al.

Summary: The fatty acid composition, triacylglycerol molecular species, thermal behavior, and infrared spectra of goat milk fat from two main breeds of dairy goats in China (Guanzhong and Xinong Saanen) were investigated. The results showed significant differences in fat composition based on breed, with higher content of medium-chain saturated fatty acids in Guanzhong and higher ratios of unsaturated fatty acids in Xinong Saanen. This study provides valuable information for the dairy industry in China, particularly in relation to the use of goat milk fat in infant formula.

Understanding the properties of fat, oil, and grease and their removal using grease interceptors

Nilufa Sultana et al.

Summary: Treatment of wastewater with high levels of fat, oil, and grease (FOG) is a major concern for water utilities. FOG produced by food service establishments (FSEs) causes sewer blockages and requires additional maintenance cost. Clear understanding of FOG properties, pretreatment processes, and deposition mechanism is crucial for successful control of FOG deposition.

Efficient and sustainable recovery of lipids from sewage sludge using ethyl esters of volatile fatty acids as sustainable extracting solvent

Felipe J. Villalobos-Delgado et al.

Summary: This study focused on extracting lipids from primary sewage sludge using ethyl esters as solvents, with ethyl butyrate showing the best separation performance. Pure calcium soaps can be extracted in high amounts, while the residual aqueous phase is not significantly contaminated and can be easily anaerobically digested. The calcium soaps can be used as biolubricant or converted into biodiesel with a catalyst, aluminum chloride hexahydrate, showing a high yield of 85%.
