Formation of metal-support compounds in cobalt-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis: A review

Summary: This article summarizes and discusses the feasibility of water-induced deactivation of cobalt-based Fischer-Tropsch catalysts by oxidation, as well as the mechanisms of hydrothermal sintering and recent findings on water-induced oxidation of metallic cobalt to CoO. The emphasis is on the formation of metal-support compounds and the applicability of various characterization techniques. The literature provides limited information on the formation and morphology of metal-support compounds in cobalt-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis due to challenges in characterization, but recent advanced techniques have provided significant insights.
