Experimental studies on flame propagation and detonation characteristics of premixed nitrous oxide, ammonia, and propane in cylindrical channel

Yuyan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the flame propagation and detonation characteristics of nitrous oxide, ammonia, and propane mixtures were experimentally investigated. The results showed that an increase in propane content initially improved the flame acceleration rate, pressure, and shock velocity, but excessive propane addition led to a decrease in these parameters.

Overall mechanism of JP-10 pyrolysis unraveled by large-scale reactive molecular dynamics simulation

Han Liu et al.

Summary: This paper presents the overall reaction mechanism of JP-10 pyrolysis obtained through large-scale reactive molecular dynamics simulations. The simulation results show that the pyrolysis reactions can be divided into three stages and exhibit a tendency towards coking with increasing temperature and time. The study also identifies the dominant role of C 5 H 7 · and C 3 H 5 · radicals in reaction propagation.

Experimental and numerical study of the influence of initial temperature on explosion limits and explosion process of syngas-air mixtures

Fengyuan Jiao et al.

Summary: The effect of initial temperature on the explosion limits and process of syngas-air mixtures was studied using experimental and numerical methods. The results showed that higher initial temperatures decreased the lower explosion limit and increased the upper explosion limit of syngas. Both experimental and numerical results demonstrated an accelerated flame propagation speed with increasing initial temperature. The simulation also provided additional multidimensional transient explosion parameters.

Experimental and numerical simulation study on the effect of ignition delay time on dust explosion in the 1 m3 vessel

Jiafan Ren et al.

Summary: Through experiments and numerical simulation methods, the effects of different ignition delay time on the parameters of each flow field and dust explosion intensity were quantitatively studied. The results showed that the explosion pressure and pressure rise rate of corn starch first increased and then decreased with increasing ignition delay time. The maximum values were obtained at approximately 600 ms, which were 0.884 MPa and 17.9 MPa/s, respectively. The distribution of airflow and particles before ignition was also studied quantitatively.

Hazard evaluation of ignition sensitivity and explosion severity for three typical MH2 (M = Mg, Ti, Zr) of energetic materials

Xing-Liang Wu et al.

Summary: Through experiments, it was found that MgH2 had higher reaction activity and rate compared to TiH2 and ZrH2, with a higher gas production rate. As thermal stability increased, ignition energy gradually rose, and the combustion ratio and calorific value were in line with the explosion test results.

ReaxFF study on combustion mechanism of ethanol/nitromethane

Liang Song et al.

Summary: Reactive molecular dynamics simulations were used to investigate the high-temperature oxidation of ethanol/nitromethane fuel, revealing that the C-N bond cleavage of nitromethane and dehydrogenation of ethanol are the dominant pathways. Active species such as NO2, NO, and OH significantly influence the oxidation mechanism of ethanol.

ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulations of n-eicosane reaction mechanisms during pyrolysis and combustion

Wenjuan Li et al.

Summary: The paper simulated the microscopic reaction mechanism and main products of n-eicosane (C20H42) using reactive force field molecular dynamics, investigating the effects of temperature and oxygen on the initial decomposition, distribution of main products, and reactive pathways of C20H42. The results provide insights into the overall reaction mechanism of C20H42 and verify the feasibility of the simulation method, which is beneficial for further research on hydrocarbon fuel reaction mechanisms.

Under-expansion jet flame propagation characteristics of premixed H2/air in explosion venting

Weiguo Cao et al.

Summary: Studying the under-expansion jet flame structure and influential factors is crucial for hydrogen safety in explosion venting. Experimentation showed under-expansion jet flames were generated with hydrogen fractions of 30-60 vol.%, with the longest duration at a fraction of 40 vol.%. The spacing between under-expansion jet flame structures increased with explosion venting diameter and hydrogen fraction, but decreased with duct length.

ReaxFF molecular dynamics study on pyrolysis of bicyclic compounds for aviation fuel

Aditya Lele et al.

Summary: This study investigates the initial fuel pyrolysis of four bicyclic compounds using ReaxFF force field based molecular dynamics simulations. The bicyclic fuels have faster or comparable decomposition rates compared to existing jet-fuels. The decomposition pathways involve central bond cleavage and ring opening, with significant temperature dependence.

Weiguo Cao et al.

Summary: The study found that under certain conditions, a high hydrogen fraction can make secondary combustion easier to occur and increase the duration of the secondary flame; meanwhile, an increase in the length of the venting duct will result in an increase in the flame front distance and propagation velocity.
