Selective catalytic hydroconversion of a low-temperature coal tar-derived crude phenols to cyclohexanol over a nitrogen-doped Co-based catalyst

Jia-Hao Li et al.

Summary: An extraction-catalytic hydroconversion (CHC)-column chromatography strategy was developed to obtain cyclohexanol (CH) and enrich non-substituted condensed arenes (NSCAs) from low-temperature coal tar (LTCT). Phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and pyrene were enriched with high purities by extraction and subsequent gradient elution using preparative liquid chromatography. Co supported on a nitrogen-doped carbon material (NDCM) was prepared and used for catalytically converting crude phenols (CPs) to obtain CH. The mechanism of the CHC process was examined using phenol as a model compound.

Yonghong Zhu et al.

Summary: The study utilized GC x GC-TOF MS and ESI FT-ICR MS with CID to analyze the nitrogen compounds in MLCT. It found that the new separation subfraction method combined with high resolution mass spectrometry efficiently detected the molecular characteristics of each fraction. The research revealed the presence of 80 nitrogen compounds in MLCT, with dominant quinolines, carbazoles and pyridines, and identified island and archipelago structural motifs coexisting in MLCT.

The characteristics and mechanism for the formation of tars from low temperature pyrolysis of lignite

Ying Xu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of pyrolysis conditions on the low-temperature formation of tars characteristics and viscosity of lignite. The results show that the yield and viscosity of tar increase with the increase of heating rate and pyrolysis temperature. The tar yield under hydrogen atmosphere is higher than that under other atmospheres, and the composition of aliphatic and aromatic components in tar increases with pyrolysis temperature.

Synthetic azobenzene-containing metal-organic framework ion channels toward efficient light-gated ion transport at the subnanoscale

Tianyue Qian et al.

Summary: In this work, carboxylated azobenzene-coordinated metal-organic-framework (AZO-MOF) ion channels with impressive light-gating properties were synthesized, achieving high on-off ratios up to 40.2. The AZO-MOF ion channels maintained a crystalline and three-dimensional porous structure, and the AZO-containing ligands controlled the pathways by bending and stretching upon light irradiation. This study suggests a way to achieve subnanoscaled gating of ion transport by angstrom-porous MOFs coordinated by stimuli-responsive ligands.
