Removal of elemental mercury from flue gas using the magnetic attapulgite by Mn-Cu oxides modification

Yifei Long et al.

Summary: The study focused on the removal of Hg-0 from coal-fired flue gas using attapulgite adsorbents modified by magnetic manganese-copper (MnxCuy-MATP). It was found that NO and HCl could effectively improve the efficiency of mercury removal, while SO2 and H2O inhibited the oxidation of Hg-0. Introducing copper could enhance the sample's resistance to SO2, leading to a higher mercury removal efficiency.

One-Pot Hydrothermal Synthesis for a Manganese Oxide Molecular Sieve for Application in Mercury Removal in Chloride-Free Flue Gas

Jun Han et al.

Summary: In this study, OMS-2 (manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieve) catalysts were prepared using a one-pot hydrothermal method at different temperatures, and their ability to oxidize elemental mercury (Hg-0) in flue gas from coal combustion was evaluated. It was found that OMS-2 catalysts showed excellent mercury oxidizing ability at temperatures between 100-200 degrees C, with a 94% Hg-0 oxidation efficiency achieved by the catalyst prepared at 120 degrees C (OMS-2-H120) in chlorine-free flue gas. XPS and FTIR analysis of the catalysts indicated that the oxidation of elemental mercury over OMS-2-H120 by O-2 followed the Mars-Maessen mechanism. NO, as a precursor, was found to enhance the Hg-0 oxidation ability of OMS-2-H120, while SO2 had a negative effect and water vapor had nearly no influence.
