A neuromarker for drug and food craving distinguishes drug users from non-users

Summary: Craving is a crucial aspect of substance use disorders and is linked to various maladaptive behaviors. Neurobiological markers of craving are needed but lacking, and it is unclear whether the mechanisms behind drug and food cravings are similar. By using functional magnetic resonance imaging, a neurobiological craving signature (NCS) was identified, which can predict self-reported intensity of drug and food craving.

What do you have in mind? ERP markers of visual and auditory imagery

Summary: This study used EEG/ERP recordings to investigate the psychophysiological markers of imagery processes. Visual and auditory stimuli representing 10 different semantic categories were presented to 30 healthy participants. Unprecedented electrophysiological markers of imagination were observed in the absence of sensory stimulation, with specific peaks identified for different categories of imagery. These findings could have important implications for brain-computer interface systems applied to patients with consciousness disorders or locked-in-patients.

Hemispheric asymmetries in visual mental imagery

The results identified clear category-dependent markers of perceptual and cognitive processing, showing high accuracy in discriminating different perceptual categories. These ERP markers could serve as significant tools for optimizing BCI systems applied to EEG/ERP signals.
