Common preferences of European small-scale forest owners towards contract-based management

Summary: The study found that the majority of forest owners in Austria, Finland, Germany, Slovenia, and Sweden are willing to participate in a contract-based payment scheme to promote environmental goals, while schemes purely focused on increasing wood production are less attractive. Forest owners are positive towards improvements in profitability and environmental attributes, and negative towards deterioration of these attributes. There are differences in the expected contract payments among countries, but similarities in preferences towards environmental goals, including biodiversity and carbon stocks.

Forest Biomass Collection from Systematic Mulching on Post-Fire Pine Regeneration with BioBaler WB55: Productivity, Cost and Comparison with a Conventional Treatment

Summary: Research compared BioBaler with a chain mulcher in systematically mulching post-wildfire regenerated Mediterranean pine stands, showing better performance for both technologies when a lower percentage of the total surface was cleared, but less than theoretically predicted. BioBaler was not economically competitive with the conventional treatment, mainly constrained by its low collection efficiency.
