Infant formula supplemented with 1,3-olein-2-palmitin regulated the immunity, gut microbiota, and metabolites of mice colonized by feces from healthy infants

Qingxue Chen et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of 1,3-olein-2-palmitin (OPO) in infant formula on the immune system, gut microbiota, and metabolites in mice. The results showed that OPO had comparable effects to human milk on IL-9, IL-10 levels, fecal secretory IgA, and endotoxin. OPO also slightly increased the content of short-chain fatty acids. The analysis of gut microbiota and metabolites revealed that different foods had an impact on the gut microbiota composition and metabolites' differences were regulated by the gut microbiota.

Probiotics (Lactobacillus plantarum HNU082) Supplementation Relieves Ulcerative Colitis by Affecting Intestinal Barrier Functions, Immunity-Related Gene Expression, Gut Microbiota, and Metabolic Pathways in Mice

Yuqing Wu et al.

Summary: The probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum HNU082 (Lp082) effectively improves ulcerative colitis (UC) by protecting the intestinal mucosal barrier, attenuating the inflammatory response, and regulating microbial imbalance. Lp082 achieves this therapeutic effect by optimizing the biological, chemical, mechanical, and immune barriers. This study provides support for the development of probiotic-based microbial products as an alternative treatment strategy for UC.

Metabolomics activity screening of T cell-induced colitis reveals anti-inflammatory metabolites

J. Rafael Montenegro-Burke et al.

Summary: Untargeted metabolomics of disease-associated intestinal microbiota can detect quantitative changes in metabolite profiles and complement other methodologies to identify altered small-molecule metabolites in inflammation. Several previously uncharacterized anti-inflammatory and inflammation-augmenting metabolites were identified, with phytosphingosine showing the most effective anti-inflammatory activity in vitro. Oral administration of phytosphingosine decreased inflammation in a mouse model of colitis, indicating its potential therapeutic value in inflammatory bowel disease research.

Roseburia intestinalis: A Beneficial Gut Organism From the Discoveries in Genus and Species

Kai Nie et al.

Summary: Roseburia intestinalis, a bacterium that produces butyrate in the colon, has been shown to play a crucial role in preventing intestinal inflammation and maintaining energy homeostasis. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease may benefit from modulating the abundance of R. intestinalis. Recent advancements in research technologies have revealed the therapeutic potential of this bacterium in human health and disease treatment.

Deterministic transition of enterotypes shapes the infant gut microbiome at an early age

Liwen Xiao et al.

Summary: By analyzing large datasets and conducting enterotype-based microbiome analysis, we have decoded the colonization and transition of the gut microbiota in infants from a new perspective. Introducing an ecological model, we estimated the tendency of enterotype transitions and demonstrated that the transition of infant gut microbiota was deterministic and predictable.
