Colorimetric detection of heavy metal ions with various chromogenic materials: Strategies and applications

Zhuo Chen et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the chromogenic materials and sensing strategies for the colorimetric detection of heavy metal ions. The unique optical and chemical properties of each chromogenic material result in different colorimetric sensing mechanisms. The review categorizes the chromogenic materials into organic, inorganic, and other materials, and discusses their detailed sensing strategies, performance, and real sample applications. Current challenges and prospects related to the colorimetry of heavy metal ions are also explored.
