Macrophages, Low-Grade Inflammation, Insulin Resistance and Hyperinsulinemia: A Mutual Ambiguous Relationship in the Development of Metabolic Diseases

Gerhard Paul Puschel et al.

Summary: The metabolic derangement in overweight and obesity is associated with chronic low-grade inflammation and hyperinsulinemia. Macrophages play a key role in this process, with inflammation contributing to insulin resistance. The insulin receptors in macrophages have the ability to enhance or attenuate pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory responses.

CF3-substituted diselenide modulatory effects on oxidative stress, induced by single and repeated morphine administrations, in susceptible tissues of mice

Renata F. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: The study revealed that CF3 could reverse the increase in oxidative stress induced by morphine doses in peripheral tissues and had antioxidant effects in the liver and kidney. The results showed that CF3 modulated parameters of oxidative stress modified by single and multiple morphine administrations in peripheral and central tissues of mice.

Opioid System Contributes to the Trifluoromethyl-Substituted Diselenide Effectiveness in a Lifestyle-Induced Depression Mouse Model

Sabrina Grendene Mueller et al.

Summary: The consumption of energy-dense foods and ethanol are linked to mood disorders. The compound m-Trifluoromethyl-diphenyl diselenide has been shown to have antidepressant-like effects by modulating opioid and glucocorticoid receptors as well as acting as an antioxidant. This study found that this compound could alleviate depressive-like behaviors and oxidative stress induced by an energy-dense diet and ethanol in young mice.

Effect of m-Trifluoromethyl-diphenyl diselenide on the Pain-Depression Dyad Induced by Reserpine: Insights on Oxidative Stress, Apoptotic, and Glucocorticoid Receptor Modulation

Cleisson Schossler Garcia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of the organoselenium compound (m-CF3-PhSe)2 in pain-depression comorbidity induced by reserpine, showing that the treatment could reverse thermal hyperalgesia and depressive-like behavior. The compound may have potential as an alternative treatment for the complex pain-depression dyad condition.
