Contemporary Advancement of Cholinium-Based Ionic Liquids for Protein Stability and Long-Term Storage: Past, Present, and Future Outlook

Anamika Sindhu et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids (ILs) have great potential as solvents for biomolecules and enzymes, with cholinium-based ILs showing the most promise in supporting biomolecular structures. However, further research is needed on the applications of cholinium-based ILs in protein and enzyme-based processes.

Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Review of Fundamentals and Applications

Benworth B. Hansen et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) exhibit significant depressions in melting points and tunable physicochemical properties, but there is still a lack of predictive understanding of their microscopic mechanisms and structure-property relationships. Research on complex hydrogen bonding is crucial for a deeper understanding and development of fundamental frameworks for DESs.

Can isopiestic method predict the formation of deep eutectic solvents?

Karzan A. Omar et al.

Summary: The study found that hydrogen bond donors that interact strongly with choline chloride and form deep eutectic solvents exhibit positive deviation from semi-ideal behavior, while hydrogen bond donors that do not interact with the hydrogen bond acceptor and cannot form deep eutectic solvents show negative deviation from semi-ideal behavior.

Carbohydrate-based aqueous biphasic systems for biomolecules extraction

Nosaibah Ebrahimi et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigated the solute partitioning behavior in biocompatible carbohydrate-polymer aqueous biphasic systems, revealing different partitioning patterns for various biomolecules. The results showed that the log K values of all target biomolecules linearly increased with decreasing water content ratio, affecting the selectivity index. Additionally, the partitioning behavior of curcumin in carbohydrate-propanol ABSs was explored, indicating that carbohydrate-PPG ABSs exhibited higher selectivity for the alkaloids studied.
