Effects of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei single-infection or co-infection with Vibrio parahaemolyticus on the hepatopancreas of Penaeus vannamei

Bo Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of single infection of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei or co-infection with Vibrio parahaemolyticus on the hepatopancreas of Penaeus vannamei were investigated. High concentration of E. hepatopenaei infection led to tissue damage, hepatic tubule atrophy, and deformation, while in the co-infection group, deformation of hepatic tubules and cytoplasmic vacuolation were observed. Transcriptome analysis revealed significant differences in gene expression related to immune system processes in the co-infection group compared to the high concentration E. hepatopenaei infection group.

Dehydroepiandrosterone exacerbates nigericin-induced abnormal autophagy and pyroptosis via GPER activation in LPS-primed macrophages

Ji Cao et al.

Summary: The study found that dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) can exacerbate abnormal autophagy and pyroptosis induced by the bacterial toxin nigericin (Nig) through activation of G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-primed macrophages. This finding suggests the potential application value of DHEA in anti-infection or anti-tumor immunity.

Co-exposure of chronic stress and alumina nanoparticles aggravates hippocampal microglia pyroptosis by activating cathepsin B/NLRP3 signaling pathway

Haiyang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that combined exposure to chronic stress and alumina nanoparticles can exacerbate hippocampal microglia pyroptosis, leading to more severe hippocampal damage and behavioral deficits. This process is mediated by the activation of the cathepsin B/NLRP3 signaling pathway.

Volume-activated chloride channels contribute to lipopolysaccharide plus nigericin-induced pyroptosis in bone marrow-derived macrophages

Xiaomin Ye et al.

Summary: The study revealed a new mechanism for the loss of volume regulation in pyroptotic cell swelling, suggesting that a functional deficiency of VRAC/LRRC8A plays a key role in this disorder. It was found that the decrease in volume-activated chloride currents and regulatory volume decrease in BMDMs undergoing pyroptosis led to pyroptosis-like phenotypes, and down-regulation of LRRC8A expression contributed to this process.

Transcriptome profiling and differential expression analysis of the immune-related genes during the acute phase of infection with Mycobacterium marinum in the goldfish (Carassius auratus L.)

Chao Li et al.

Summary: Goldfish have been used as a model to study the innate immune system and host-pathogen interactions. Transcriptome analysis of goldfish spleen infected with Mycobacterium marinum revealed multiple immune-related pathways, providing valuable information for further investigations on strategies against M. marinum infection in teleosts.
