Endometriosis classification, staging and reporting systems: a review on the road to a universally accepted endometriosis classification

Summary: In the field of endometriosis, multiple classification, staging and reporting systems have been developed, but there is currently no international consensus on how to describe the condition. Studies evaluating these systems show that most of them have little to no correlation with patient outcomes. The ENZIAN system has been confirmed valuable for surgical description of deep endometriosis, while the endometriosis fertility index has been validated for its intended purpose related to infertility.
