Consumers' privacy calculus: The PRICAL index development and validation

Frank T. Beke et al.

Summary: Understanding consumers' acceptance or rejection of personal information collection is limited, but crucial for firms and marketers. The authors develop the privacy calculus (PRICAL) index to measure the trade-off between the valence and uncertainty of consequences. The index improves the explanation of behavioral intentions and actual behavior compared to currently used constructs.

The Bulletproof Glass Effect: Unintended Consequences of Privacy Notices

Aaron R. Brough et al.

Summary: This research investigates how consumers respond to privacy notices and finds that formal privacy notices can undermine consumer trust and decrease purchase interest. However, this negative impact can be reduced when consumers have prior reasons to be distrustful or when benevolence cues are added to privacy notices.

SYNTHESIZING GEOCODES TO FACILITATE ACCESS TO DETAILED GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION IN LARGE-SCALE ADMINISTRATIVE DATA

Joerg Drechsler et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of synthetic data to provide detailed geocoding information to external researchers. The proposed synthesis strategy based on categorical CART models outperforms other methods in terms of preserving analytical validity. Generating additional variables is shown to be a preferred strategy to address the risk-utility trade-off in practice.

Data analytics in a privacy-concerned world

Jaap Wieringa et al.

Summary: The study highlights that firms can implement various methods to satisfy different degrees of privacy while still utilizing diverse data analytics methods. It compares how functions related to data analytics and privacy are performed at different levels (consumer, intermediary, and firm), and analyzes how different analytics methods address consumer privacy.
